Flood Watch – Essex Region until 9:00am July 1, 2017

Posted on June 30, 2017

The Essex Region Conservation Authority advises that a line of strong thunderstorms is
predicted to move through the Essex Region over the next few hours. These storms may include
flooding downpours with rainfall amounts of 25 to 50 mm and wind gusts of 60 to 80 km/hr.

The potential for flooding exists throughout the region especially in low-lying areas adjacent to
and within floodplain areas of all major waterways and shoreline areas.

People should take extra caution and avoid rivers, ditches, streams and shoreline areas. The
combination of slippery banks and fast moving water can be extremely dangerous. The strong
winds may also result in lake waves overtopping breakwalls/shorelines. Standing water can also
present its own unseen hazards. Children, pets and livestock should be kept away from areas of
flowing water, standing water and breakwall/shoreline areas.
