Watershed Condition Statement- Flood Outlook

Posted on April 3, 2017

The Essex Region Conservation Authority advises that many open waterways within the Essex Region are continuing to convey moderate flows and that water levels are decreasing following the significant rain event last week. Most agricultural fields remain saturated with some standing water at certain locations.

Current forecasts are advising of the potential for 15 to 30 mm of rain over the next 24-hour period. Based on the existing ground conditions and the current forecasted rain, there is a concern for the accumulation of standing water in low lying areas throughout the Essex Region, especially adjacent to and within the floodplain areas of all major waterways and shoreline areas.

People should take extra caution and avoid rivers, lakes, ditches, streams, and ponds. The combination of slippery banks and fast moving water can be dangerous. Standing water can also present its own unseen hazards. Children, pets and livestock should be kept away from flowing and standing water.

This advisory is in effect until: 12:00 pm, April 4, 2017
